This styling project draws inspiration from two trend concepts: “Where The Wild Things Are” and “You And I Are Earth.” Both stem from the overarching theme of Elsewhere’—a post-pandemic longing for escapism and imagined realms free of reality’s weight. These trends offered a soft, dreamlike interpretation of that desire to drift beyond the mundane. I was personally drawn to these narratives because it reflects how I use art and fashion as an escape. With surrealism, the conscious and unconscious mind are blurred; I find space to imagine freely and get lost in my own inner world. This project became my way of translating that dreamscape using styling, with products from Spring/Summer’23 collections.

Wild Things Are

This A/W’23 trend captures the joy of escaping into a childlike imagination—where it is playful and there are no boundaries to creativity . In fashion, this manifests through saturated colours, bold silhouettes, eclectic and juxtaposing prints, often using upcycled pieces.

On the other hand, the S/SS’24 trend ‘You And I Are Earth’ takes a more naturalist approach that emphasises on realignment and reconnecting with one another: with ourselves, others, and the Earth we are living in, because we belong to nature. Elements of nature and earthy colours are present in this trend, giving a more rustic and raw look. The clothes are in harmony, often close to the body; exploring the interaction between people and the environment around them.
